TV WEEKLY LETTERS; EASTENDERS SPECIAL

The Mirror – November 30th 1996

Square-well to wicked Wicks

I hope Michael French gets a well-deserved award for his memorable exit as David French from Albert Square.

His was a powerfully charged performance, deeply sensitive, so very moving and played with great feeling.

Albert Square won’t be the same place without you, Michael.

Bob Neilson, Acton, W. London

I MUST congratulate Michael French on his amazing performance.

His performance as David Wicks must ensure that he becomes a big star of the future.

Arlene Locise Finchley, N. London

MICHAEL French was brilliant in his tearjerking performance. Good luck Michael and come back to our screens soon.

MY WIFE is an avid EastEnders viewer, and every time it is on TV I nip round to our local.

The pub has no juke box and no telly and is usually a haven of sanity.

Imagine my dismay the other night when nearly all the talk there was of some bloke who’d just quit EastEnders.

WHAT a brilliant actor Michael French is. The scenes leading up to his departure were riveting. EastEnders won’t be the same without him. I do wish him all the best for his future projects.

RAQUEL WENT WITH A WHIMPER

AFTER the huge build up to Raquel’s departure from Coronation Street, the event itself was a let-down, more comical than anything.

My medal for best departure has to go to Michael French in EastEnders. His performance had me in tears in Tuesday’s and Thurday’s episodes.

Much as I hate his character, David Wicks, I couldn’t help myself – he was stupendous.
