TWITTER soap fans were left heartbroken after on/off lovers David Wicks and Carol Jackson broke up in an emotional EastEnders episode tonight.

Carol (Lindsey Coulson) decided to call time on her relationship with David (Michael French) after he sprung a surprise on her before their honeymoon.

David said he had booked an appointment with a plastic surgeon in Miami for Carol who had just returned from a meeting about a possible double mastectomy.

Moments earlier David had told Carol he would love her “with or without” breasts.

After David dropped the bombshell Carol told their daughter Bianca Jackson she wanted her on/off lover gone “for good”.

She said: “I’ve just had a moment of clarity, a glimpse into the future.

“If you love me like you say you do. If you have any feelings for me then you’ll go.

“It doesn’t have to be horrible. It doesn’t have to be shouty. I don’t want to be left feeling angry or resentful.

“I just want you to go. Your things are all packed, there is nothing to stop you.”

 

David, who in the previous episode had a heart attack on the day of his wedding with Carol, shared one last dance with her before he left.

And after saying a tearful goodbye to daughter Bianca he got in a taxi and told the driver he wanted to go to Heathrow Airport.

The character’s third exit from Albert Square made EastEnders fans take to Twitter to pour their hearts out.

Twitter user Neve Wicks said: “I’m an absolute emotional wreck! @bbceastenders it still hasn’t sunk in that he’s gone and they’ve broken up!  #CarolandDavid”.

Rich Wilson posted: “Why did they break up Carol and David….again!!”

While Linda May Jones tweeted: “#still crying over eastenders with carol and David!! Why can’t they be happy together”.
