EastEnders legend David Wicks has headed back to Walford – but it’s fair to say fans were left rather distracted over his return
EastEnders David Wicks has made his epic return to the soap – but fans were left rather distracted.
The soap legend, played by Michael French, made his bombshell debut way back in 1993. The villain turned up at dad Pete Beale’s (Peter Dean) funeral and went on to be one of the most famous faces of the soap.
As Walford’s notorious love rat, David was involved in several big storylines. From fathering plenty of children to getting into violent scuffles, his time on the show was not short of drama.
David nearly struck up a romance with Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) before learning she was actually his daughter, and he also famously had a feud with step-brother, Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).
The Walford bad boy even embarked on an affair with his then-wife, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) that almost saw Ian killed.
Actor Michael French ended up leaving in 1996 though – leaving viewers gutted. But the villain made an epic comeback to the soap more than a decade later in 2012 before leaving in 2014.
But now, 10 years on and David was back in the square during Thursday’s episode (October 3). As fans will recall, David’s daughter Bianca has been struggling with her mental health recently.
As well as getting diagnosed with depression, Bianca has become fixated on proving Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) murdered his wife, in a bid to get her pregnant sister Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) out of prison.
And during Thursday’s instalment (October 3) Bianca ended up getting kicked out of the Queen Vic for her outlandish behaviour. As she fell onto a pile of rubbish bags, a mystery figure stepped out of a taxi.
The mysterious man was then revealed to be David Wicks – who was appalled by the state of Bianca. And it’s fair to say fans had a lot to say about David’s return.
Sharing their thoughts online, fans were left swooning over actor Michael French, saying he “doesn’t age.” On X, formerly known as Twitter, said: “The way David Wicks can STILL get it all these years on. The man is a magnetic KING.”
A second penned: “He ages like a fine wine.” A third chimed in and proclaimed: “Why does David Wicks still look hot? Do they deep freeze him between his EastEnders appearances and defrost him in time for his return?” Another wrote: “David doesn’t age.”
